How to qualify
Each Federation (=Country) can qualify for "spots" at the Olympic Games in two different ways.
At the
2007 FINA World Championships
in Melbourne, Australia
Top 12 divers in the individual events will guarantee their federation (Country) a spot at the Olympics. Plus a spot for the Host Nation (China)
Top 3 synchro teams will guarantee their federation (country) a spot at the Olympics.
(As an example: China, Australia and Germany have secured a sport at the FINA World Championships in the Women Synchro Platform. Since the USA team did not finish in the top 3, they will have to take 4th or better at the World Cup, excluding the teams previously qualified)
The Host team automatically receives a spot in each synchro event (In this case China)
At the 2008 FINA World Cup in Beijing, China
Top 18 Semi-Finalists will guarantee their federation (country) a spot at the Olympic. Up to a Maximum of 34 divers in each event.
Top 4 synchro teams excluding the previously qualified teams (China, Australia, and Germany) will secure a spot
